Our Lady of Lourdes Church, 1937
Our Lady of Lourdes Church stands as a testament to faith, devotion, and the unwavering spirit of its parishioners. Established in 1937, this sacred place of worship has been a beacon of spiritual guidance and community gathering for generations. The foundation stone was laid on January 10, 1937, by MGR. M. Despatures, D.D., the Bishop of Mysore, marking the beginning of a journey dedicated to prayer, service, and devotion to Our Lady of Lourdes.
As time passed, the church evolved to meet the growing needs of the faithful. In 1997, the Altar underwent its first major renovation, ensuring that the sacred space remained a fitting place for worship.
Embracing further growth and renewal, the church underwent a significant transformation in 2023, with construction efforts focused on enhancing its spiritual and architectural beauty. This transformation included the construction of a newly built Altar, which was consecrated on September 27, 2024, in a solemn and blessed ceremony led by Most Rev. Dr. Peter Machado, Archbishop of Bangalore, alongside our beloved Parish Priest, Rev. Fr. Maria Louis.
In addition to the Altar, the renovation also included the construction of the Entrance Arch, then Chapel dedicated to Infant Jesus, St. Antony, St. Sebastian, Our Lady of Lourdes, and Our Lady of Sorrows and the Flag Hoisting Pole. These sacred additions have further enriched the spiritual experience of all who visit, providing spaces for prayer, reflection, and divine connection.
Today, Our Lady of Lourdes Church continues to be a sacred sanctuary, where the faithful gather to celebrate their faith, seek blessings, and carry forward the legacy of devotion that has flourished for decades.
This year, in 2025, we are joyfully celebrating the 87th Annual Feast of Our Lady of Lourdes Church, marking yet another milestone in our spiritual journey. The feast celebrations bring together the faithful from near and far, uniting everyone in prayer, gratitude, and devotion to Our Blessed Mother.
About Parish Priest
A dedicated priest of the Archdiocese of Bangalore, was born on January 9, 1983. He pursued his philosophical studies at Sacred Heart Seminary in Chennai and completed his theological education at St. Joseph’s Seminary in Mangalore. Ordained on May 11, 2011, Fr. Maria Louis currently serves as the Parish Priest of Our Lady of Lourdes Church, Halasuru. In addition to his parish duties, he holds the position of Secretary to the Liturgy Commission of the Archdiocese of Bangalore, contributing to the spiritual and liturgical life of the community.
About Asst. Parish Priest
Fr. Antony Joseph MMI, son of Gannaperakasam and Rathina Mary, was born on May 10, 1986, in Tiruchy, Ariyalur, Tamil Nadu.
After completing his Bachelor’s in Commerce, he pursued his calling to the priesthoodnand was ordained on October 14, 2013. Since then, he has been devoted to his priestly ministry, serving in Brazil, Chennai, and is currently ministering at Our Lady of Lourdes Church, Bangalore.
